In our latest shopper survey on the Big Game, we asked shoppers how they’re preparing for game day – from their party plans to their must-have dishes. Let’s explore these 2025 game day shopper insights!

Most Valuable Fun Facts: Game Day Shopper Insights

There’s lots of ways to celebrate the most exciting game of the year! 13% of shoppers are hosting a party, 24% are attending a party, but the majority of those tuning in (63%) are just planning to watch the Big Game without any crazy party plans.

As for where they’re watching the action unfold, the overwhelming majority (70%) will be tuning in from home, while 18% will be at a friend or family member’s house to cheer on their favorite team together.

And who’s joining in on the fun? For most, it’s a family affair—47% are watching with family, while 15% are celebrating with friends. Some (9%) are making it a community event with a mix of friends, family, and neighbors, while 22% are flying solo for the game so they can cheer as loud as they want.

Pregame Preparations: Shopping Habits for the Big Game

Whether they’re throwing a party or just stocking up for the ultimate snack spread, 54% of shoppers are hitting up the grocery store for their game-day necessities. Another 20% are heading to Walmart, while 11% are buying in bulk at a club store.

When do they head out to purchase their big game-day haul? 35% shop about a week in advance, while 28% grab supplies 1-2 days before kickoff. And much like the players, a fearless 7% are making their runs on game day itself!

As for the budget, 40% of shoppers spend under $30 on game-day food and drinks, while 25% spend between $30-$60. Some go all out for the Big Game, with 8% spending over $100 to fuel their football festivities.

Snack Time Coverage: CPG Shopping Preferences on Food for the Big Game

No game-day spread is complete without crowd-pleasing snacks, and shoppers have some clear MVPs! 29% say chips and dip are a must-have, followed by 21% who are all about pizza and 18% who say wings are the real winner. Burgers and hot dogs also make the lineup, while 4% opt for charcuterie boards and fruit or veggie trays.

And what’s everyone washing it down with? 32% are sticking to soda, while 18% are sipping on beer or hard cider. Wine, cocktails, juice, and even mocktails make an appearance, proving there’s a drink for every type of fan.

When it comes to how they’re getting their food, 21% of motivated shoppers are cooking everything from scratch, while 22% are opting for takeout. Another 10% are hosting potlucks, and 26% are doing a mix of cooking, takeout, and frozen foods to keep things easy.
